This volume of Jean Laplanche's(1), published for the first time in 1987 by P.U.F., incorporates lengthy research on Freudian propositions that dates back to the sixties and Laplanche's rupture with the École founded by J. Lacan.
As the author himself recognises in his preface to the Italian edition, Nuovi fondamenti per la psicoanalisi “represents a point of consolidation and affirmation” in the development of his ideas. For thirty years now, Laplanche has been intensely concerned with some of the “fundamental dimensions of psychoanalysis”: The primal (fantasme originaire, fantasme des origines, origines du fantasme, Hachette, 1985), Sexuality (Vie et mort en psychanalyse, Flammarion, 1970), Anxiety (Problèmatiques, I), Castration, Symbolization (Problèmatiques, II), Sublimation (Problèmatiques, III), The unconscious and the id (Problèmatiques, IV), The psychoanalytic situation (Problèmatiques, V).
