The usual procedure followed by our research group is to leave room for the interests of individual members, within the confines of a shared area of research. This area, which was initially concerned with fusionality and its importance for normal as well as pathological development, has progressively widened to include the right to existence and occupation of an area in the relational and affective world.(1) Here we present a number of proposals which, will extend and give a more in depth treatment to these subjects. Roberto Tagliacozzo attributes the genesis of the precursors of the Super-Ego and of primary depression to the inadequate tolerance on the part of the environment to the subject's needs for fusionality. Lydia Pallier deals with the connection between fusionality and mania, a subject which complements the one dealt with by Tagliacozzo. Mania is seen as a defence for the preservation of the integrity of Self, when a fusional caesura occurs.
