The point of departure of the article is the disagreements about theory and technique in the British Society. Fantasies of being “the owner” of psychoanalytic father or mother are described, for each group. Over time, the solutions involved institutional arrangements, then theoretical and technical rapprochements between groups. The over-valuation of one aspect or another can lead to exaggerations or diminutions in the technique which are not suitable for the analysis. The author illustrates his ideas with two scenarios, of Winnicotian and Kleinian approaches.
