In this discussion, I reflect on how Rozmarin's (this issue) experience as a mother leads her to reject the binaried formulation of maternal subjectivity as casualty of being-for-an-other in favor of a more postmodern formulation. By being less concerned with preserving boundaries and enunciative authority and more interested in describing a maternal subjectivity that is structured by the very interpermeated and often unnarratable experience of the encounter with one's child, Rozmarin breaks new ground in the ongoing project of understanding maternal subjectivity and begins to bridge some of the gap between the “real” and “theoretical” mother.
