This introduction offers an insight into how this panel, this project, came into being. Too often, psychoanalytic spaces become spaces where white savior fantasies take over, erasing the subaltern subjectivity. This is especially true if the subaltern voice is also queer. Our queerness is seen as one needing saving from our “less civilized” selves, thus justifying colonization and erasure. In the following essays, we reject the paternalistic notion of needing/wanting rescue and present our vulnerable and complicated selves. We also invited folks to come into conversation with us, to gossip with us, and to be in community with us through their thoughts as if in living room à la Foluke Taylor or on our porch. These associations and responses appear in the footnotes of the essays. We now invite our readers into this messy and co-created space.
