In this article I discuss Sal Daña’s Kirin Award-winning paper, “Body as Estuary: Mixed Being, Being Mixed” (this issue). The scope of my discussion focuses on writing in and of itself as a decolonial and revolutionary act. In doing so I use the writer’s narrative as well as their metaphor of the estuary to highlight the power of writing toward sociopolitical change from an experience-near and process-driven perspective, bringing together the remarkability of the paper’s writing style, with its healing potential and agentic dimension.
