Our colleague, member of the Norwegian Psychoanalytic Society, Kjell Ugulen, died in September 1989, 52-years-old.
He gained his M.D. from the University of Oslo. After having worked in general practice, he specialised in psychiatry and psychoanalysis. He always maintained his contact with the general practice he had established as a young doctor, both during the period when he worked as chief psychiatrist in a team treating adolescents, and after he had established his private practice as a psychoanalyst.
Above all, he engaged himself in psychoanalysis. He worked actively for the Norwegian Psychoanalytic Society both in honorary posts and by making scientific contributions. In his scientific contributions, he was primarily engaged in the understanding and treatment of narcissistic disorders.
One of the honorary posts Kjell Ugulen held was that of President of the Norwegian Psychoanalytic Society in 1981 and 1982. He was also Chairman of the Congress Committee that arranged the 8th Nordic Psychoanalytic Congress at Lillehammer in 1982.
Kjell Ugulen was a warm-hearted and sensitive man, an inspiring colleague and friend who will be remembered with gratitude.
