In the spring of 1993, a business meeting of the Swedish Psychoanalytical Society was devoted to the question of how to organize the society's scientific activities. As a result, the Scientific Committee (Agneta Sandell, chairperson, Henry Jablonsky, David Titelman, and Franzisca Ylander), later in 1993, supplemented the society's bi-weekly scientific meetings with two seminar series for specially interested members and candidates. The first of these now ongoing series was arranged jointly by the Scientific Committee and the Psychoanalytic Institute; it has borrowed its title from, and continued working on the theme of, the 1992 precongress on psychoanalysis and empirical research of the Nordic Psychoanalytic Congress in Reykjavik, namely, From clinical observation to systematic knowledge. Of the 16 participants in these seminars, 8 people have given prepared presentations of research projects or theoretical overviews. The second series is called The field and function of speech and language in psychoanalysis: A Lacan reading. These 8-10 seminars, led by Iréne Matthis, were announced to accommodate 10 participants, places that were immediately taken up.
The list below of “ordinary” scientific meetings refers only to activities organized by the Scientific Committee. It includes neither the successful public lectures organized by the society during 1993, nor membership papers, nor a description of the extensive (postgraduate) training activities led by Irma Brenman-Pick and Eric Brenman from London and organized by the society and the institute.
