In 1934, the Finno-Swedish psychoanalytic association was founded. This association worked in close collaboration with the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA), whose incentives were the integrated system of knowledge that had arisen from the revolutionizing psychological discoveries made by Sigmund Freud.
The Swedish Psychoanalytical Society that descended from the Finno-Swedish association expresses in its statutes that the Society, apart from other ways of promoting the development of psychoanalysis, must support scientific education and research through supplying psychoanalytic literature. Through donations and purchases, the Society's library has grown into an impressive collection. Since the late 1960s, the library is placed at the Swedish National Library for Psychology and Education (SPPB).
The collection is now registered in SPPB's database Fridtjuv (accessible via Internet) as well as in LIBRIS (the Swedish national bibliographic database for research and special libraries). This is in compliance with the society's directive to make books and periodicals available to both researchers and the general public.
Eric Fridén, librarian at SPPB, has compiled a printed bibliography containing references to the 2500 titles in the society's collection. Cross-references of several kinds and a title index are also included. The bibliography also contains the appendix Psykoanalytisk referenslitteratur — tryckta publikationer i SPPB, compiled and annotated by Doriana Lööf, also librarian at SPPB. The appendix lists important reference literature available at SPPB, even if the books are not a part of the society's collection. The bibliography, Svenska psykoanalytiska föreningens samling på SPPB, can be purchased from SPPB, Box 50063, 104 05 Stockholm, or by e-mail: dlf@sppb.se. Price: SEK 240 (+p&p).
