In 1994, Randolf Alnæs published, in Norwegian, Psychoanalysis in Norway. History, training, treatment, research, in the Nordic Journal of Psychiatry, suppl. 32, vol. 48, 1994. He has now written a book version “Psychoanalysis between psychiatry and psychology”.
Since the earlier version was reviewed in this journal, I will not under take a new one. However, it is important to announce that in this new version, Alnæs has considered earlier reviews and the book is a revised and expanded publication. There are new biographical data, new ideas on the historical development, and new chapters on supervision and international research.
Today, when psychoanalysis is again under debate, it is important to have documentation of both historical facts, development in theory and practice, and continuous discussion among psychoanalysts themselves. I recommend this new version for those not having had the opportunity to read the Nordic Journal of Psychiatry.
