June 21 1947 - May 27 2021
Eva Hurtig was a training analyst in the Danish and Swedish Psychoanalytic Societies. She had formerly held a position as Lecturer at the University of Lund, Department of Psychology and Psychotherapy.
On May 27 2021 Eva´s heart stopped beating. She collapsed in her home as she was packing to go to the family summer home for a holiday. Eva was still working as an analyst and supervisor at the Psykologbyrå in Malmö. She had begun to reduce her workload but intended to be active in her profession for some time yet.. Apart from her closest family, her husband Rolf, her daughter and son and their families Eva´s sudden and unexpected death has affected many deeply. In her long service as analyst, supervisor and teacher in Southern Sweden she has been important for and inspired many.
Kind, considerate, healing, listening, competent are all words that have been used to describe Eva.
Another word is balance.
Balance on many levels - between theory and practice, between heart and brain, between closeness and distance.
Between theory and practice
Eva was known as a good and knowledgeable teacher for future psychoanalysts and psychotherapists. She was well informed about developments in analytic theory and never stopped learning more. Her clinical work was always rooted in theory which served as a tool to unlock problems occurring in the therapeutic process. She learned from her own experience and was always looking for new knowledge and untiring in her effort to find ways out of also very difficult situations in treatment.
Between heart and brain or feeling and intellect:
It is difficult to do justice to Evas special quality but one key is the way feeling and` intellect constantly and seamlessly bound together in her. One never dominated the other.
