To what extent psychoanalysis can be transmitted is open to dispute. Interpreting dreams, can it be learned? And a child’s drawing, does it take a special formation or even an initiation? It can hardly be by imitation that psychoanalysis is passed on, neither by reproduction of a model. Indeed, questions around transmission goes to the heart of psychoanalysis. To bring out this argument, tact is taken as a point of departure. Truth is another major concept which here, following Lacan, is contrasted to knowledge and theory. Focusing on tact and truth proved to be helpful when exploring what makes transmission of psychoanalysis difficult.
