“When the patient becomes aware of his transference state, of what then does he become aware?” This presentation focuses on the experiences of an imaginary patient in psychoanalysis in the moments of awakening from a transference state. The imaginary patient “expresses” his thoughts and feelings at that moment. Through this we may empathize with the patient’s felt experiences of transference repetition and of the liberation from it, especially in the moment of awareness and the realization of its consequences. Referring to psychoanalytic literature, the presentation describes the transference state and the defence mechanisms that preserve it. I especially focus on the superego perspective and on the potential state of transition made possible by the psychoanalytic interaction. I ask which conditions help the transition from one state to another. The presentation describes the difficult feelings of working through this transition, such as the shame of being exposed, as well as the possibility of a new separation- and individualizationprocess.
