Dear readers,
This autumn, a new editorial team has taken over the responsibilities, following the hard work and achievements of Stephan Hau and his team, who successfully got the journal back on track. Thanks to their dedication, we already have several articles published online, and they are set to appear in issue 48/2.
This issue features a diverse range of articles covering key areas of psychoanalysis:
We begin with Liam Bierschenk’s article, ‘State of mind: becoming one’s “self” through the interaction of subject and object’. Bierschenk emphasizes a fundamental aspect of psychoanalytic practise: practising psychoanalysis represents ‘a state of mind.’ As analysts, we make ourselves susceptible to the analysand's inner state. He highlights the necessity of ‘temporally lose the integrity of our state of mind’ to be able to connect with the analysand's mind and by that enabling the analysand to develop her/his own mind. To illustrate this process, Bierschenk discusses a clinical case of a young man in psychoanalysis. He explores these phenomena through theories of projective identification, container-contained, dreamwork alpha, waking dream. Furthermore, Bierschenk offers perspectives that elaborate the question of what kind of science psychoanalysis is, linking it to other theories of mind and consciousness.
In the paper ‘Reflections on Thomas Ogden’s Contiguous-autistic position: thoughts on the end of the analytic process,’ Silvia Cimino explores Ogden’s theory of a Contiguous-autistic position and its contribution to understanding a young woman she had in psychoanalysis. She presents specific sequences from the analysis in detail, offering a thorough examination of the process. In the article, Cimino also focuses on two aspects: ‘rethinking the conclusion of analysis between separation and separateness, revisiting some aspects of Quinodoz’s’ ideas. She further offers insights regarding the temporal dimension within the final stages of the analysis process.
