This is “Volume I, Number I”, symbol of a new medium, a new vehicle of communication. It will take its place alongside the ever-increasing lines of contact which have been provided in recent years in the interest of an informed membership. Indicative of the growth and vitality of our Association, it is in itself a token of our expanding needs and of the continuing efforts to meet them more effectively. This new instrument will replace the Presidential Newsletter, which has served well for seven years. Besides relieving the President of this task, it will be able to present timely news on a more regular and substantial basis.
While this first issue is a beginning, it is also a result, the fruition of an idea. It was conceived by Dr. Burness Moore, Chairman of the Committee on Public Information, and further developed in conjunction with our new Public Relations Consultant, Mr. Eugene Kone. Alert to the need for effective communications within our organization as well as to the outside, the Executive Committee recommended the creation of a Newsletter, and Council gave its approval. I am happy that Dr. David Kairys, who chaired the Ad Hoc Committee which made practical plans for publication of the Newsletter, will be its first Editor. His Editorial Staff will include a nucleus in New York, for efficient operation, along with geographic representatives from throughout the country.
This Newsletter is for the benefit of the membership. It is planned that there will be space for the members to express themselves directly, and we hope you will avail yourselves of this. Your suggestions and opinions will always be welcome.
Greetings to all of you and I hope to see many of you in Detroit in May.
