The Executive Council heard with regret at its last meeting of a move within the American Psychiatric Association to discontinue its joint program with the American Psychoanalytic Association, which has been a regular event on the Monday following the Annual Meeting of the American Psychoanalytic Association (this Monday is also the opening day of the Convention of the American Psychiatric Association).
Many speakers in Council expressed the concern they would feel if this productive collaboration were to be abandoned, and urged the President to exert every effort to persuade the American Psychiatric Association to continue the annual joint program. President Rangell reviewed the various contacts that had already been made with officers of the American Psychiatric Association, and were continuing at the time that the American Psychonalytic Association was meeting.
In support of the President's efforts, the Executive Council authorized that a resolution be communicated to the Executive Council of the A.P.A., reaffirming the value of the joint meetings and the desirability of their continuation.
The latest report is that the Executive Council of the American Psychiatric Association has voted to continue the joint meeting of the two Associations.
