The 1967 Fall meeting of the APsaA, held December 15-17 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, New York City, was attended by 1,614 people, the largest registration on record for any meeting of the Association. Of this number, 574 were members of the Association; the balance of the registrants were wives of members, members of Affiliate Societies, Candidates, members of the APA and the International, psychiatric residents and individuals from related disciplines.
On Thursday afternoon, 356 members participated in 19 Discussion Groups and Clinical Conferences. Friday and Saturday were devoted to scientific papers and panels, which were heavily attended. An Open Meeting, on Sunday afternoon, entitled “Psychoanalysis and Moral Values,” drew an audience of more than 700, some of whom had registered only to attend this session. Registrants included students and teachers in the fields of law, philosophy and theology.
The scientific sessions on Saturday were followed by a Cocktail Party, an innovation which replaced the traditional Dinner-Dance. This event was heavily over-subscribed, and in view of its popularity, the innovation will be continued at the next Fall meeting.
