[Editor's Note—As is the case in any large organization, the American Psychoanalytic Association conducts much of its work through the medium of Committees. The Executive Council and the Board on Professional Standards each has its roster of Standing and Ad Hoc Committees, which carry on their work throughout the year. Much of the Association's work is done in these groups and their reports at the semi-annual national meetings form the basis of many policy decisions by the two governing bodies. Despite the central importance of the work done by the Board and Council Committees, their functions and activities remain largely unknown to the membership of the Association.
Since a major purpose of the Newsletter is to inform its readers about the activities of the national organization, we have decided to print a series of feature articles describing the work of the Committees. To this end we have asked the Chairmen of various Committees to write short articles describing the scope and work of their groups. While space limitations will make it difficult to convey the full flavor of any Committee's work, we hope that even these brief descriptions will give our members some idea of what the Committees do.
In this issue we present articles about one Committee of the Executive Council—the Committee on Indexing—and one Board Committee—the Committee on New Training Facilities. Other Committtes will be described in future issues.]
