The First Annual National Conference on Suicidology will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 1968, preceding the meetings of the American Orthopsychiatric Association, at the Conrad-Hilton Hotel in Chicago.
Organized by the Center for Studies of Suicide Prevention of the NIMH, the program will feature a “reconvening” of the famous 1910 Viennese symposium “On Suicide” with the following participants: Drs. Jacques Choron, Louis Dublin, Paul Friedman, Robert Havighurst, Lawrence Kubie, Erich Lindemann, Karl Menninger and Erwin Stengel. Four of the participants — Drs. Friedman, Kubie, Lindemann and Menninger—are members of the APsaA.
Three additional symposia are scheduled: “Self-Destruction and the Problem of the Will;” “The Current Scene: Suicide Prevention Activities in the United States;” and “Reports on Current Research in Suicide and Suicide Prevention.”
In addition, a business meeting has been scheduled for those interested in the establishment of an American Association of Suicidology.
