It is the purpose of this article to describe two institutions which illustrate ways in which the concepts of psychoanalysis can be applied to the field of child mental health. The two institutions, located in the Los Angeles area, are separate entities, but it is useful to describe them in a single article because their activities are closely related and many of the same psychoanalysts participate in both organizations. The older of the two is now known as the Center for Early Education; the younger is the Reiss-Davis Child Study Center.
