The Executive Council at its meeting on May 7 approved an amendment to the By-Laws which would provide a restricted form of membership for non-medical training and supervising analysts. The proposed By-Law is to be submitted to mail ballot vote by the membership.
The By-Law approved by Council had been recommended by the Ad Hoc Committee on Recognition to Non-Medical Training and Supervising Analysts, chaired by Dr. David Kairys. Seeking a formula which would be acceptable to representatives of varying viewpoints on this issue, the Ad Hoc Committee offered a new approach to the problem, based on the concept of “membership by invitation.” Under the proposal approved by the Council, non-medical training and supervising analysts could become members only by invitation from the Association and not by application initiated by the individual concerned. A proposal to extend an invitation could
be made by any affiliate society or by any fifteen members of the Association.
A “grandfather clause” would provide for automatic invitations to the non-medical training and supervising analysts who have received their waivers from the Board of Professional Standards prior to January 1, 1970. In the case of those granted waivers after that date, a period of two years would have to elapse between the date of the waiver and the date on which they would become members. Once invited to membership these individuals would be known as “Active Member (nonmedical)”. They would have all of the rights and privileges of regular members.
