With close to 1700 registrants, the 1970 Fall Meeting of the Association (December 17-20) set a record for attendance, and was marked by an especially heavy turnout for the lecture by Professor Jean Piaget, of Geneva.
Arranged as a plenary session on Friday afternoon, Professor Piaget's talk filled the Starlight Roof of the Waldorf and was heard, over a public address system, by a large overflow crowd in another of the hotel's meeting rooms. Listeners said that although Piaget spoke in French, his great vitality could be felt whether or not one understood the words. His lecture, entitled “Affective Unconscious and Cognitive Unconscious,” was delivered without notes or manuscript; one of his students, Dr. Eleanor Duckworth of Montreal, provided a running extemporaneous translation which succeeded in conveying the speaker's spirit along with his words.
The crowded program of workshops, panels, and scientific papers was brought to a close on Sunday, December 20 with a series of Interdisciplinary Colloquia covering a range of topics in related disciplines.
