Hale and vigorous at 84, Dr. Rene A. Spitz, a world-famous figure in the field of psychoanalysis, delivered a plenary address at the May meeting of the APsaA. An audience of about 1000 filled the Regency Ballroom, one of the Shoreham's largest meeting rooms, to hear Dr. Spitz deliver a paper entitled “Bridges from Soma to Psyche.”
Continuing his studies on the formation of the psychic apparatus, psychic integration and regulatory activities, the plenary paper dealt with the currents of maturation and development and the formation of successive psychic organizers, which Spitz sees as analogous to the organizers of embryologic growth.
