On June 15, 1971, Sigmund Freud's apartment in Berggasse 19 was dedicated to public use as a museum, library and historic place of remembrance. The Federal Chancellor of Austria, Dr. Bruno Kreisky, and the Honorable Felix Slavik, Mayor of Vienna, officiated at the opening ceremonies, thus expressing, however belatedly, Austria's official recognition of the importance of Freud and his work.
The Sigmund Freud Gesellschaft of Vienna has carried out the acquisition and refurnishing of the Freud apartment (with the active interest and help of Miss Anna Freud) and expects to welcome the participants of the International Congress in Vienna at the Berggasse in July 1971.
