With the nine Commissions of the National Conference on Psychoanalytic Education and Research striving to meet the deadline of February 15, 1974 for submission of their position papers, the Planning Committee (COPER) and the participants in the Commissions have reached the final planning phase for the Conference.
The Conference, scheduled to take place September 29 through October 4, 1974 at The Homestead, Hot Springs, Virginia was enthusiastically endorsed by the Association in 1971. It was planned to provide an overview of current psychoanalytic education and research which would take into account the sweeping changes taking place in medical and psychiatric education and permit careful and deliberate consideration of current issues, problems and plans for the future development of psychoanalysis. Participants represent a cross section of the membership of the Association in terms of geography, special interests, and seniority.
The format for the Conference itself is intended to give all participants the opportunity to consider the work of all the Commissions. Each participant has, however, done his initial work in the service of a single Commission. At this writing, a Panel is planned for the December 1974 meeting of the Association which will present a summary of the autumn Conference.
