On October 12th, 1974, a joint meeting of the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute and the Western New England Psychoanalytic Society celebrated Dr. Helene Deutsch's 90th birthday. Dr. Sanford Gifford gave an address that, in detailing the highlights of Dr. Deutsch's life in Boston from 1935 to the present, provided a vivid history of the Institute itself, as well as an evocation of the manner in which a fortuitous combination of libidinal and aggressive drives have supplied a life-force of happy abundance in one of our most distinguished colleagues.
