Inspired by the warmth and hospitality of our Denver colleagues, the NCPCCA has decided to hold its annual cocktail party this year at a private club, the Lotos Club, an interesting old Victorian mansion, at 5 East 66th Street, off Fifth Avenue, from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. on Saturday evening, December 14th. As usual we will have a cash bar. All registrants of the meetings will be welcome.
The NCPCCA will again have a hospitality suite in the Waldorf. Please drop in for coffee, for a drink and to say hello. The suite will be available from Thursday morning, December 12th through Sunday morning, December 15th.
The NCPCCA now has over eighteen active committees with a total of more than 90 members from institutes across the country. Given the lack of uniformity and inconsistencies in training standards and graduation requirements, the Committee on Training Standards, chaired by Drs. Harold Rosenberg, (San Francisco) and Sue Wood, (Seattle) will study and report on training standards and graduation requirements in all institutes approved by the APsaA. Dr. Paula Bernstein (Denver) chairs a committee on Psychoanalytic Practice which is exploring the increasing problems of practicing psychoanalysis because of the dearth of patients and non-acceptance of analysis by psychiatrists and other groups. An NCPCCA Program Committee chaired by Dr. Edward Stein (Chicago) will work in conjunction with the APsaA Program Committee to increase candidate/clinical associate participation in the semi-annual APsaA meetings.
An NCPCCA committee charged with exploring the Problems of Psychoanalytic Training will be concerned with the excessive length of training, financial and family pressures, confidentiality of the training analysis and many other problems. The Arrangements Committee is planning NCPCCA activities in conjunction with the forthcoming Fall Meeting of the APsaA.
Professor Arnold Rogow, a research candidate in political science at the N.Y. Psychoanalytic Institute, chairperson of the NCPCCA Committee on Research Candidates, recently sent out a questionnaire to research candidates throughout the country asking their opinions on a broad range of questions, including their views on quality of training, the financing of their training and the attitudes encountered toward research candidates. This data is now being compiled and will be published in an upcoming NCPCCA newsletter. (The NCPCCA Newsletter is published 4-6 times a year.)
During the 1973-4 year, the NCPCCA compiled a listing of candidates/clinical associates and recent graduates of APsaA-approved institutes. The roster was published in July, 1974, and sent to each of its 600 members. Complimentary copies were sent to the Executive Committee of the APsaA, and to the Executive Secretary of each institute and training program for reference purposes.
