In the issue of September, 1974 it was reported that Dr. Lucille Dooley became the first woman member of the Association in 1926. Dr. Harold Blum has correctly noted that the Roster lists Dr. Marion E. Kenworthy as a member since 1922. Dr. Arcangelo D'Amore has examined the minutes of the Association year by year for the relevant period and has discovered that “on June 10, 1926 both Dr. Marion Kenworthy, N.Y.C., and Dr. Lucille Dooley, Washington, D.C., were admitted to membership at the same time!” The Roster, therefore, is in error. Dr. Kenworthy is credited by Lewin and Ross (1960) as the first American child psychiatrist to take psychoanalytic training. She became the first woman President of the Association in 1958.
Dr. D'Amore, in a note to the Editor, writes: “Nothing is nice and simple these days—not even old history!”
