The members of the Board on Professional Standards elected Dr. Stanley Goodman its new Chairman for a three-year term beginning in 1976. Dr. Goodman, who has held many positions of executive and educational importance in the San Francisco Psychoanalytic Institute, has been a member of the APsaA since 1956. He was a Fellow of the Board from 1962 to 1969, and a member of the Committee on New Training Facilities in the same period. He has also been a member of COPE, the Membership Committee, and was the Secretary of the Association from 1971 to 1973.
As he finished his term as President, Dr. George Pollock reviewed a year of increasing participation of the Association in social and political matters outside of our organization which have increasing impact on the professional lives of psychoanalysts. He stressed the need to find ways of achieving continuity in our efforts in the face of rapid changeovers in executive officers and others who have worked concentratedly to attain familiarity with the complex issues likely to affect analysts in future years.
He graciously thanked many who had helped him in the past year, and presented the new President, Dr. Francis McLaughlin, and the new Secretary, Dr. Rebecca Z. Solomon.
May 3rd was the last Members' Meeting at which Dr. Martin A. Berezin, as Secretary of the Executive Council, read one of his unfailingly comprehensive, literate, and clear reports. He thanked many who had provided him with a “lively and wonderful experience” and he, in turn, was warmly applauded by those assembled.
