CAPE officers attended the two all day meetings of the American Psychoanalytic Association Board on Professional Standards and Executive Council. With the rights of forum, they represented candidates/clinical associates' points of view on many topics.
For the first time, CAPE was called upon to give a report to the APsaA Executive Council on candidate activities. Dr. Stanley Stern, of Western New England, then President, received an enthusiastc response to the report which is available upon request.
Dr. Herbert Gaskill, President-Elect of the APsaA is the new chairman of the committee. Dr. Francis McLaughlin, Dr. Edward Weinshel, Dr. Stanley Goodman and Mrs. Helen Fischer attended the meeting. Dr. James Raney, new chairman of CAPE's Committee on Recent Graduates represented the graduate's viewpoints. Candidates will now be eligible for reappointment to APsaA committees on a yearly basis, as are Associate and Full Members. Also discussed were the problems of resident/candidates, whose deductions for training analysis as a business expense have recently been disallowed by the IRS. It was suggested that this issue be submitted for review by the newly forming Judicial Commission of the APsaA. There was a lengthy discussion of the membership application to the American. CAPE officers urged that the information regarding application procedures and the kind of data needed should be available to candidates early in their training. Ideally, the application itself could be included in the candidates' manual, and summaries could be written in this form throughout training.

On Tuesday, May 7, 1975 there was an excellent turnout of residents who wished to hear about psychoanalytic practice and training. We plan to continue this panel in Miami.
