All categories of members attended an Open House to celebrate the new Central Offices of the Association from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 1975, during the Fall Meeting week.
It was a festive evening, included supper, and both the situation and decor at the new offices were much admired. So many of those attending expressed their pleasure at being invited to the Central Office that plans are being discussed to make an evening at the Central Office an annual event of the Fall Meeting week.
PLEASE DON'T DESTROY…
…those old letters, memos, clippings, and photographs. Have you considered their value as part of the history of psychoanalysis? Have you been an officer or committee chairman of the Association? Have you helped found a society or institute? Were you involved in a special project with other analysts or an interdisciplinary group? Have you worked as the only analyst in your area? Did you know the founders or early officers of the Association?
You may have just the documents that fill in a gap in our knowledge, or balance a skewed view others have presented. Your papers may be the only copies available if they date back to before the existence of the Central Office of the Association. The Committee on History and Archives is ready to assist you in deciding what to do next. Your memorabilia may be given to the archives of the Association, an affiliate society or institute, a university, or to the Library of Congress. A file one-inch thick may be just what we need. A photograph or film may fit the next exhibit. A tape recording may be vital to our oral history program. Let us know.
Clio, the muse of history, knows you are important, too!
