The Board also voted to approve the appointment of Dr. Paulina Kernberg as Supervising Analyst in Child Analysis for Columbia.
Committee on Membership: Under procedures approved by the Board, invitations to extend Associate membership for one year were sent to the 162 Associate Members whose three year terms expired in May 1976. 149 of these Associate Members have indicated their intent to apply for Active Membership. As of April 30, 1976, there were 2263 members in all categories: 1432 Active, 432 Affiliate, 399 Associate. The Membership Committee felt encouraged
by the initial responses to the new by-laws on Membership, and recommended that the American allow these very recent by-laws to be evaluated in operation for a time before possible future modification.
The Committee again offered to individualize the application procedure for older graduates. Any graduate who is ready to make a sincere effort to meet the Membership Committee half way should apply or at least should direct his questions to the Committee. Committee on New Training facilities: The Board endorsed a recommendation from the New Orleans/Texas Subcommittee to grant Provisional Institute Status to the Houston/Galveston facility. The Houston/Galveston school will be completing its second year of operation as a self contained four year psychoanalytic program this June. The Board approved the appointment of Dr. Merlan DeBolt as a geographic rule training analyst for Dallas (sponsored by New Orleans).
