The International Psychoanalytic Association plans its 30th International Congress in Jerusalem, August 22 to 26, 1977. The main theme of the Congress is “Affects and the Psychoanalytic Situation” with prepared, prepublished papers, dialogue meetings, debates, small discussion groups and individual scientific papers all derived from and around the central theme.
This Congress, which represents the first meeting of the International Psychoanalytic Association outside the continent of Europe will use the convention facilities of Jerusalem. The Hilton Hotel will serve as headquarters for its sessions. The hotel is well located and the buildings are air conditioned, so that regardless of the outside temperatures, the inner ambience will be satisfactory. According to the Organizing Committee, composed of members of the Israeli Psychoanalytic Association, the ambient temperatures in Jerusalem in late August range around the mid 70's (25°C) with cooler evenings. The dates of the Congress have been planned to take advantage of the favorable temperatures at that time of the year.
The Program Committee chaired by Dr. Edward Weinshel of San Francisco and Dr. Andre Green of Paris has had a mixture of American, European and South American members who have planned an extensive scientific undertaking that will allow for the participation and involvement of large numbers of members and guests of the International Psychoanalytic Association. Those who wish to present scientific papers should send copies of these papers to Dr. Weinshel in San Francisco for consideration.
The usual pre-Congress training conferences will be held starting Thursday, August 18 in Jerusalem. A Planning Committee, chaired by Dr. Evelyne Kestemberg of Paris and Dr. Robert Wallerstein of San Francisco has arranged an extensive program for the pre-Congress sessions with invitations being issued to all training institutes affiliated with the International Psychoanalytic Association, so that they may send appropriate representatives to the pre-Congress. A new feature of the 30th Congress will be a final session devoted to a report of the pre-Congress sessions as well as a summary of the actual scientific sessions at the Congress itself.
The International Psychoanalytic Association, which underwrites the biennial Congress, in addition to its many other activities, will have its biennial Business Meeting of Members, Wednesday, August 24, 1977. It is at these Business sessions that the Executive Council and officers of the Association report to the members on the various activities of the IPA and on developments in the field of psychoanalysis throughout the world. All members of the IPA are eligible to attend the Business Meetings.
The preliminary program and registration forms will be sent to all members of the IPA before the end of the current year, so that advance registration and hotel registrations can be made in ample time for the Congress.
