To the Editors:
Recently some of our members have received an unsolicited letter from the “National Accreditation Association for Psychoanalysis” that reads as follows:
“Thank you for your interest in being listed in the national registry of psychoanalysts.
A major goal of the NAAP is to establish psychoanalysis as a separate profession. If you are interested in joining us in this important effort please complete the enclosed application form and return it for review by the Committee on Certification.
We look forward to hearing from you.”
This letter is not signed by Phyllis Meadow, who appears to be the principal person behind this movement, but by an unknown Administrative Assistant. Mention of the “Committee on Certification” serves to confuse the efforts of this organization with those of the American. I would like to emphasize that the organization in question has no status whatsoever with the American Psychoanalytic Association.
Burness E. Moore, M.D., Chairman
Committee on Certification
