To the Editors:
Rumors have arisen around the country about the future of the malpractice program the Association has arranged for its members. These rumors seem to stem from the Executive Council meeting in December at which some councillors apparently reacted more to my tone or facial expression than to the words of my report.
For the information of the membership, there is, at this point, no intention of cancelling such a program for any reason based upon past experience. The record of the members of the Association has been good and issues that have arisen have been satisfactorily settled.
The only difficulty that this program experiences is one that it has in common with all medical malpractice insurance throughout the country—the hesitancy of insurance companies about the level of future claims and costs. To that extent the program for the members of the American Psychoanalytic is no different than any other malpractice insurance program. However, your Committee continues to work closely with the agent to the advantage of the members of the Association.
