To the Editors:
Robert Wallerstein, M.D. again brings to our attention that analysts have repeatedly made efforts to review our educational process.
No discipline can be vital if it remains attached to and reinforces models for the sake of tradition. Although psychoanalysis will endure the current crisis, we need to do more than maintain our status quo. Serious revisions of our educational process are mandatory. Psychoanalysis can only flourish under a climate of objective interest in assimilating new methodologies.
Our current models for training are antequated. Why must we continue to strive for sameness rather than reach for newer models that can only enhance our specialty?
The inherent struggles within our Association must be resolved now, in order to insure our future. Robert Wallerstein is not impatient—he is realistic!
