The Southern California Psychiatric Society paid tribute to Leo Rangell, M.D., by honoring him with a three-day symposium entitled “Bridges, Psychoanalytic Essays in Honor of Leo Rangell, M.D.” This symposium took place at their Annual Fall Meeting, September 22-24, 1978, held at the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego. The event was co-sponsored by the Psychoanalytic Societies of Denver, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle and Southern California. The program consisted of ten analytic presentations, workshops, and a luncheon honoring Dr. Rangell. Papers were presented by Drs. Jacob Arlow, Harold Blum, Justin Call, Heiman van Dam, Eleanor Galenson, Leo Rangell, Leonard Shengold, Robert Wallerstein, Edward Weinshel and Victor Calef.
These rich presentations were further discussed in workshops chaired by Drs. Norman Atkins, Milton Bronstein, Austin Case, Fred Hoedemaker, Felix Loeb, Sidney Pomer, Robert Tyson, Joseph Lifschutz and Kato van Leeuwen.
The symposium, because of its purpose and its excellent content, attracted a large audience. In excess of 500 attended, coming from all over the country. Tapes of nearly all the presentations can be obtained by contacting the Infant Psychiatry Research and Education Foundation, 1958 Galaxy Drive, Newport Beach, California 92660.
