In 1977, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem announced the establishment of the Sigmund Freud Chair in Psychoanalysis. The Chair was filled in October 1979, being a joint appointment in the Faculties of Medicine and Social Sciences. Following this, a Sigmund Freud Center is being created at the Hebrew University. It is intended to be a place to which psychoanalytic scholars can come from all over the world and which can serve as a focus for the dissemination of psychoanalytic thought within the University and elsewhere. At present a limited amount of financial support is provided by the University, and a campaign has been started by the Friends of the Hebrew University, together with a Committee headed by Dr. Milton Jucovy of New York, to raise funds for an endowment for the Center.
One of the major tasks of the Center is the creation of a first-class psychoanalytic library, in order to have the important literature immediately available to local and visiting scholars. Books for the library are being solicited, and an appropriate bookplate will be inserted into every volume. Books should be sent directly to the Center, and will be acknowledged in an appropriate form for a tax deduction to be made.
Books should be addressed to Professor Joseph Sandler/Sigmund Freud Center/c/o Psychology Department/Hebrew University of Jerusalem/Givat Ram, Jerusalem/Israel.
All books should be sent by parcel post, with the parcels marked ‘Gift, Books, N.C.V.‘ Large collections of books can be sent through the Friends of the Hebrew University, and details of this method of forwarding books will be sent on request.
