The American Psychoanalytic Association has been formally re-accredited until 1987 by ACCME (the consortium of professional organizations headed by the AMA) and authorized to assign Category I educational credit to medical participants. Further, through the Committee on Continuing Education and its National Subcommittee on Cosponsorship, this authority to assign educational credit is extended to the Institutes and Societies of this Association.
However, two stipulations have been made by ACCME for postgraduate programs:
Institutes may no longer grant Category I credits to their candidates for hours of participation in the basic curriculum required for graduation, but may proceed as usual for postgraduate educational exercises.
The Societies and the Association must evolve closer planning and liaison functions through the activities of the National Subcommittee on Cosponsorship.
Means of improving planning and liaison are now under study, and further information will be forthcoming from Board and Council.
