The Newsletter welcomes Dr. Hall's clarification but stands by the accuracy of its report. The article in question simply reported the statement from the Secretary of the Board in his report of December 2, 1981, to the Executive Council that the Board “voted in favor of a motion to approve the goal of developing a program for the psychoanalytic training of clinical psychologists and certain mental health professionals”. The accuracy of this report was subsequently confirmed in discussion at the Board meeting of May 12, 1982.
There was no implication that any autonomous action toward implementation of any program was involved. On the contrary, the accompanying article stated that “The Council was cautioned by the Executive Committee that the question was not to be regarded as a Board versus Council issue. … The Council, as the governing body of the association, has the responsibility for any such decision which then must be presented to the membership for approval.”
