A memorial service for Dr. Eli Marcovitz, who died suddenly on March 2, 1982, was held at Shallcross Hall of the Friends' Central School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on March 28, 1982. He was a Training Analyst at the Philadelphia Association for Psychoanalysis since 1955 and served as President of that organization from 1958 through 1960.
Speakers at the service were his son, Mr. William Marcovitz, Dr. Herman Belmont, Dr. Stuart Wolfe, and Mr. Robert Hilkert, a friend and fellow musician who played in the Déjà Vu Quartet that Dr. Marcovitz founded 30 years ago. Dr. Abraham Freedman read a tribute written by Dr. Paul Sloane, a friend and colleague of Dr. Marcovitz for nearly 50 years.
Tribute was paid to Dr. Marcovitz as an outstanding clinician and teacher, as well as a guiding force of The Philadelphia Association. His knowledge of art, music, literature, medicine, and psychoanalysis was praised as having been skillfully blended in his numerous papers, which covered a broad range of topics.
