Father and Child: Developmental and Clinical Perspectives, edited by Stanley H. Cath, Alan R. Gurwitt, and John Munder Ross and published by Little, Brown and Co., Boston, was named most outstanding book in the Behavioral Sciences by the Professional Division of the American Association of Publishers for 1982. This award is based upon scholarship, content, and design. In a review of Father and Child, Dr. Albert Solnit, Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and Psychiatry at Yale University, noted that it is “an inspired book that will increase awareness of the role of the father in human development.”
It is the first anthology to focus upon the developmental transitions from infancy to boyhood, boyhood to manhood, and fatherhood to grand-fatherhood, as well as on the effect on others of the death and dying of a father.
