After some years of inactivity, C.A.P.E. (Council for Psychoanalytic Education), a national candidates' organization, is being reorganized.
Its purpose is to facilitate analytic education, promote collegiality, enable communication among candidates in training, and act as a bridge between candidates and the larger analytic community. Plans are also underway to revive the C.A.P.E. journal, Psychoanalytic Education.
At the initial C.A.P.E. meeting last May in Miami, pro tem officers were elected to serve until formal elections are held in the spring. Candidates will be receiving information about this election. The current elected officials are President Dean Hetrick (Seattle), Secretary Jack Miller (Western New England), Treasurer Robert “Nick” McConaughy (Seattle), and Journal Editor Barbara Jones (Baltimore-Washington).
Guest speakers at the December meeting included Edith Sabshin and Marvin Margolis. Both encouraged candidates to take an active part in the affairs of The American. Dr. Margolis mentioned that a process is being set up to include candidates as members of existing committees and that a new formed committee of The American will review the applications of those seeking committee appointments. Candidate members will be selected in the same manner as are other committee members.
