Lawrence Chalfin of New York and Morris Peltz of San Fransisco have been nominated for chair of the Board on Professional Standards. Following established procedure, current chair Marvin Margolis chose three members of the Nominating Committee—John Boswell, Manuel Furer, and Jorge Schneider—and designated Schneider as its chair. The Board elected two additional members, Cornelis Heijn and Samuel Hoch. The committee sent letters soliciting nominations to Fellows of the Board, directors of institutes, and chairs of educational committees. Committee members discussed specific qualities they considered necessary for candidates: strong dedication to psychoanalytic education, and experience both at the local level and on committees of the Board.
As Schneider points out, the Committee was quite aware of its responsibility, since at this critical juncture, with enormous challenges facing psychoanalysis, the position of BOPS chair becomes particularly sensitive. The election will take place at the annual May meetings for a three-year term of office to commence in 1994. Nominations from the floor will also be accepted.
