The 1995 Annual Meeting of The American, scheduled for May 11–14, will be entirely administrative. This experiment with a single scientific meeting per year stems from sugestions made by the task forces on strategic planning and is meant to encourage attendance at July's IPA Congress in San Francisco. The meeting of The American, to be held at Chicago's Hyatt Regency, will include meetings of Board, Council, and their various committees and task forces.
The Committee on Certification will arrive Tuesday, May 9, and meet in full-day sessions Wednesday through Friday. The Executive Committee will meet Thursday morning, May 11, and then sit in on committees meeting in the afternoon. Committees of the Board that are scheduled to convene include Child and Adolescent Analysis, Institutes, New Training Facilities, Nonmedical Clinical Training, Psychoanalytic Education, and Research and Special Training. Council committees anticipated to meet include Public Information, Practice, Government Relations and Insurance, Scientific Activities, Societies, and Newsletter. Others may be added. Joint committees scheduled include External Credentialing, Membership, the Subcommittee for Rewriting Ethics Guidelines and Procedures, and University and Medical Education. No task force meetings are as yet scheduled.
On Friday the Executive Committee will meet with the Council's Steering Committee from 8:00 A.M. to noon and with the Boards Coordinating Committee from 2:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. The Executive Committee will meet alone from 8:00 P.M. to 10:30 P.M.
The Board will meet Saturday, May 13, from 8:00 A.M. to noon, followed by the Council from 2:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. A buffet lunch will be served between those meetings. A social event is planned for Saturday evening. On Sunday morning, May 14, the Executive Committee will review the week's proceedings.
