The seventh IPA Conference of Training Analysts will be held in San Francisco July 27–29, just before the main Congress. For those who have not attended previous training analyst conferences, this year presents an opportunity to sample what many regard as the high point of IPA gatherings. Most of the time at these conferences is spent in small discussion groups in which colleagues from all over the world speak frankly with one another about their experience as training analysts and supervisors. The groups typically are small enough to allow every member to participate actively, and social events are planned so that old friendships may be revived and new ones cemented. The substance of the group discussions has in the past given rise to published papers, new teaching strategies, and innovations in clinical practice.
This year the meeting will focus on supervision. All of the discussion groups, which will feature presentations of analytic material obtained from supervisory sessions, will approach the material with a uniform set of questions in mind. Then, in a final plenary session, the groups will compare notes. The wrap-up speaker for the conference will be Eva Lester of Montreal, who will integrate the reports of group leaders to the final plenary session.
Analysts eligible to participate in the Conference of Training Analysts should return their registration forms to Broomhills now, as space is limited and registrations are already coming in.
