We wish to correct an unfortunate error in the last issue of TAP. In the report of the December meeting of the Executive. Council, “Margolis Presiding, Council Moves on Credentialing” by Mel Mandel, it was erroneously stated that in December 1994 the Council, in voting to join the Consortium, stipulated that “ … the council had the final vote on any agreements reached within the Consortium…” Although the sentence continues by stating correctly that both BOPS and the Council would have to approve any agreement that affected training standards, the statement that the Council has the final vote on approving agreements reached by the Consortium is misleading.
The relevant section of the December 1994 minutes were read verbatim at the December 1996 Council meeting at the request of the president. They state: “We reaffirm our understanding that all decisions of the Consortium are subject to approval by the governing bodies of each component organization.… It was later clarified by the President and the Presidentelect that ‘approval by the governing bodies’ means that the Board and Council would have topass on a Consortium issue like external eredentialing before the Association could proceed” [italics added].
