In his letter to the editor “What to Listen For,” (31/3) George Makari correctly points out that I misquoted him in my article “What Have Mondrian, Jazz Musicians, and Analysts in Common? Freedom Within Structure” (30/2). I inadvertently misrepresented the views he expressed at the panel on “Neutrality and Abstinence” at the 1995 Fall Meeting of The American. I apologize for my error and appreciate his setting the record straight.
