We should be more careful. However, the disparity was not due to deliberate bias. You are right in saying the article about Michels should have been better edited. At the time the article arrived, we were unaware that Michels was running against Tasman. The article on Michels was decided upon in the spring, when we learned that Michels was chosen to be plenary speaker at the Fall Meeting. It was positioned in TAP where previous articles about plenary speakers have been.
It was only at the last minute that we realized that Tasman should also have an article in the issue — precisely to avoid a bias. (If a member of The American is running for office in The American and has written an article that will appear during the election, we try to include an article by his or her opponent. We had not thought about what to do if members of The American are running against each other for office in other organizations.) Fortunately, Tasman was able to write his article on very short notice, and it was included. Unfortunately, we did not recheck Michels's article.
On page 17 of that issue, there is an article mentioning that both Tasman and Michels are running for APA president.
