The American Psychoanalytic Foundation has reviewed many grants and awarded nine this year. Grant projects include two training grants for CORST scholars; telecommunications equipment for several centers designated by the Committee on New Psychoanalytic Centers; visiting professorships including two sponsored by the Committee on Racial and Ethnic Diversity and the Committee on Issues of Homosexuality; and a public forum to be presented by the Public Information Committee at the Fall Meeting.
A videotape of the public forum held at the 1997 December Meeting, “Creation of a Self: Color and Trauma in The Life of A Child,” is now available. This 45-minute tape shows highlights from the two-and-a-half-hour forum. It is recommended for use in an educational program for students or others and in professional education programs addressing the psychoanalytic perspective on such topics as violence and racial trauma and their effects on the development of self concept.
To order the video at cost, in VHS format, please send $15 to the APF (address below). The foundation has developed a Web site in conjunction with this project, located at .
The foundation is also developing a Web site on “Alcoholism: Psychoanalytic Perspectives,” partially supported by a grant from the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States. We invite all psychoanalysts interested in alcoholism and other addictive behavior to join and actively contribute to this interactive site. For more information e-mail Carol Lindemann at lindy@interport.net.
